September Art Show-“Green Rapture” by Debra Horan

September 1–29, 2026

This month’s featured artist is Debra Horan, who happens to be the owner of Booklovers’ Gourmet. Her work centers around meaningful connections and experiences in nature, whether walking a trail in the woods or lingering in a backyard garden. Spending time in nature is a simple way to reconnect with ourselves and restore our well-being. For the body, fresh air, sunlight, and movement can help us feel more energized and relaxed. For the mind, being surrounded by trees, water, and open spaces can quiet the noise of everyday life, reduce stress, and create a sense of clarity. And for the spirit, nature offers a beautiful opportunity to slow down, be present, and remember that we are part of something greater than ourselves. Even a little time outdoors can leave us feeling grounded, refreshed, and renewed. Take a look at what has captured her attention and what she wishes to share with you! A meet & greet with the artist will take place on Saturday, September 12th, 2-4 p.m. with light refreshments.

OCTOBER ART SHOW: “THE COLORS OF LIFE” BY JUDY MURPHY

October 6–31, 2026

“THE COLORS OF LIFE” BY JUDY MURPHY will be on display in our cafe gallery October 6th-31st. The public is invited to a meet and greet with the artist on Saturday, October 24th from 2-4 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. For more information call 508-949-6232. Artist Bio: As a child, Judy won coloring and poster contests, but never pursued art until she retired. Color is her main inspiration. She can stop and find the beauty in any person, place or thing. Her style is said to be unique, quirky, fun, illustrative and easily recognizable. While most of her paintings are watercolors, she continues to expand her skills through courses at the Worcester Art Museum and as an active member of the Blackstone Valley Art Association.

Banned Books Week 2026

October 6–10, 2026

Join us in celebrating Banned Books Week with special displays of banned or challenged books, stickers and bookmark giveaways, petitions and cards of solidarity to sign and other special merchandise. Banned Books Week was launched in 1982 in response to a sudden surge in the number of challenges to books in libraries, bookstores, and schools. Held in the last week of September or first week of October, the annual event highlights the value of free and open access to information and brings together the entire book community — librarians, educators, authors, publishers, booksellers, and readers of all types — in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas.

Based on the celebrated book How to Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk by Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish, this interactive session will provide attendees with an introduction to practical, effective methods of communication that will make their relationship with children of all ages less stressful and more rewarding. This discussion will help you:: • Learn specific skills that help children recognize and cope with their negative feelings, such as disappointment, envy, frustration, anger • Understand ways to accept children’s feelings, limit unacceptable behavior, and still maintain goodwill • Learn ways to invite cooperation that will leave everyone feeling good about themselves and each other • Understand alternatives to punishment that enable parents to express their strong disapproval as well as encourage children to assume responsibility for their behavior Copies of the book will be available for purchase.
